They said I took it too far, so I went further.

I've been getting some comments saying I'm not doing the right thing with my harp. Today, I'm going to continue to do the wrong thing, but see how far I can go with it.

Thanks to GFI System for sending me the Duophony!

*the rest of the pedals used in this video are listed below*

Here’a a deeper dive on the Duophony (on guitar)

Curious about how my harp works?

Reacting to someone saying "no, don't do your art like that" by doubling down and doing it twice as hard is the essence of the artistic soul.

As a fan of synths and fun synth sounds, the entire second half of this video was magical. Really fun seeing things being done like this with instruments you wouldn't typically expect.

Emily, I am a harpist for almost 17 years now, and you are pushing the harp to new expressions and new sounds - and I'm lovin' it! Keep on doing your pedal magic!

I love Emily’s response!
When the fart pedal combo were played my dog quietly got up and walked to the back door to be let out. 😂

No instrument is sacred. There is a time and place for tradition, but no current instrument or genre of music would exist without the trailblazers that came before. Love what you're doing with harp, keep it up!

The parallel sound of the reverse + bitmap + skylar + artificial blonde was amazing.

At this point I can't tell if Em going "METAMORPHOSIS huh Russ" while wearing butterfly earrings is cosmic irony or them just messing with us

Harp through pedals is great! And this channel's also a great example of how whatever instrument you play, you can use a bit of tech to make all kinds of cool sounds and interesting music. It's not just for guitarists and keyboard players, and playing a classical instrument doesn't mean you need to put yourself in a box. Also you can hit the box with a mic and turn that into music too!

I was going to write some kind of thoughtful comment, but you two verbalized anything I would've said anyway, so I'm just going to say that the Placebo pedal joke was damn brilliant.

I have so much respect for the way that you not only doubled down on your position, but instead of dismissing the haters, you instead channeled them towards another musician/creative as something they may be more likely to enjoy. Also, I have to say, the music you played at the at the 4:16 mark was gorgeous and blew me away...

Here's the thing I love the most out of using pedals to turn the harp into a synth: sympathetic resonance. The way that the harp strings resonate into the wood and the wood transfers a subtle resonation into the other strings creates a very full and lush sound. It's part of why the harp sounds the way it does, but it's not something we normally perceive much.

But when effects pedals pick up all those other subtle resonances and amplify them, you get a sound that is so much bigger than just the notes played. That's something that most synths could never pull off, at least not organically. Amazing sound.

The banana pedal plus dark star mix with the four pedals all melded together with the duophony and added stereo width was mind blowing. It started at 3:02

Don't let 'em drag you down! You are extending the possibilities of the harp. The traditional harp is not going to disappear. You have opened the door to a larger space! I play viola and your work is very inspiring to me; I bet many who play other instruments watch your channel. Cheers!❤

If ego death had a sound, this would be it. Absolutely amazing work as always, y'all.

The irony is that harps of that type wouldn't exist without pushing some boundaries. Journeying into what is possible is part of being an artist, not just a musician.

We learned that when you question an artist, they'll probably use that as fuel to take an idea further.

Have no idea how I ended up here. I can't carry a tune, can't play a thing, can't differentiate instruments when listening to music but happy I got here. The way Emily reacts to haters or silly criticisms is one of the most heartwarming things I have seen on social media and years. Not kidding, she may "just" be a harpist exploring but she really is a role model on how to communicate with people who are set on not liking what you do.

Thanks Emily!

Personally, I think your stuff sounds amazing. This segment especially has a very Vangelis vibe to it that I really dig. Thanks for what you do!

I can't understand it... With the vast expanse of things on youtube, there are people who are going out of their way to pass comments on things that they can choose to... just.. not.. watch..
Please don't stop playing about with music in the weird and wonderful ways that you do <3
Thank you for taking the time to create, edit, and share

I really like the blend that is happening around the 7 minute mark. I'd love to hear a whole song that uses that set up.

This video is such a revelation to me. Never knew harps were such a versatile instrument. Never knew they could produce these sounds. All of this is amazing.
