Just bought a G5655 Quilt top. Its beautiful but I have been breaking strings two to three times a day for the past month. Its driving me mad! Mine has the Vibramate too. Installed a roller bridge hoping to stop the breakages. Didn't help. Checked everywhere on that guitar for burrs/ sharp spots... No joy.

Does it affect the action at all on the neck, does it need a new set up?

The rick 325 is sold on aliexpress.com or through the play store app. Black with 3 pickups. Might be worth a shot for the money. It is just for me. The comparison video made it sound identical.

Hello Alan. That is a neat looking attachment, and seems to be very easy to install. I have several guitars with Bixby s and I just take my Ernie Ball string winder and remove all the strings from the tuners and then simply lift the Bixby on its hinges and the strings come right out and the new ones go in, put the unit back down while holding the strings and put them back in the tuners. Zip, zip. If you get a chance, look up the Chinese built Rickenbacker comparison video and tell me if you think they might be worth buying. I had a Rick in 66. If I knew they were going to cost 15k today, I would have never sold mine. I am thinking about trying one of the Chinese, you can get for 3-500. Let me know.

stick a folded piece of cardboard or foam undern the Vibramate while changing the stings - then it won't fall off

I wouldn't put one on those on my Bigsby." ...LMAO...I'm just ribbing ya but that does sound like keyboard warrior center on Youtube. I need an electric string winder of some type because I'm getting old. Also for the string changes, I like to use Carmex lip balm in the nut slots. That's a tip from Joe Perry's guitar tech from way back. It works pretty well and is low buck.
Everytime I see a guitar like that...I think of Duane Eddy's "Rebel Rouser"...
