We’re bringing you the highlights of the weekend's top stories. We start by celebrating Chidimma Adetshina's victory as Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, after overcoming challenges related to her participation in the Miss South Africa pageant. Then, we shift focus to a heated political clash in Edo State, where former Governor Adams Oshiomhole criticises a comment made by First Lady Betsy Obaseki about the importance of having a wife in the Government House. The show also features a gripping discussion on the case of Peter Nicholas, a young photographer who faced 10 months in prison for resigning via text. Funke Adeoye from Hope Behind Bars Africa joins us to shed light on the broader issues within Nigeria's criminal justice system, including the plight of awaiting trial inmates. Don't miss this insightful and compelling episode.

I think Nigeria discredited itself in a way. The fact that she was invited to go straight to finals, the competition committee gave an impression that SA Peagant is superior than Nigerian, even if the is the case.
Winning the competition was just to fight SA.
Miss Rivers also deserved the Crown

Nigerians think they know South Africa rainbow nation. Mia is a South African, her generations were also born in SA, we can't say the same about your chidimma whose parents are non SAns.

Taraba where she has never stepped her feet on, how did she become a Miss Nigeria? Truly Nigeria is a confirmed lawless country.

I swear I never thought Nigeria had people like y'all ladies. Ladies who question and discuss things like these on a public platform. Every Nigerian that engages on this Chidimma topic is immediately emotional about it and label or called us names.

Y'all asked valid questions and it seems like most Nigerians do not even care about the other girls, girls who fully knows everything about Nigeria 😅 who can get a question at Miss Universe and answer it with pride.

No moral code, no intergrity, no respect for the rule of law, no consideration for the other girls who have also worked so hard only for the crown to be taken by someone outside 😢 zero consideration of the other girls’ feelings because anyway they’re locals. But anyway it’s the favour of God abi? Congratulations to you Chidimna!

To the lady in Orange, coaching seems artificial hey. I just think the best would have been to allow Chichi an opportunity to join for 2025. That would have allowed her to come and experience Nigeria, integrate and see how she can make an impact. A lot of scars have been created and most potential future Nigerian contestants will feel that there is a form of unfairness in the pageant. I see a call for strict regulation because regardless of whether MUN has a private sponsorship and maybe very little to do with the state, it still represents the nation and the hopes of communities.

Such bias organisations should be boycotted so they can improve on fairness.

Also, I worry that the continuing investigation against her Identity might just cause doom for Nigeria in cementing the stereotypes of scamming and fraud associated with the nation. And that for me is not a great image to market. Had she been allowed to join in 2025, all the investigations in SA would have been concluded and no risk of reputational damage at the MU pageant. Imagine if SA concludes their investigation in November and how that would impact her participation. I hope my comment doesn't seem hateful, but just my foresight. I wish her the best and if she becomes Miss Universe, then it would be well deserved.

Chidimma wants the crown, at ANY cost, whoever is at the other end of it, she doesn’t care. The Naija girls that have invested so much into it; she doesn’t care; it’s all about her. She has a stolen citizenship in Southy and has publicly claimed a week ago that she’s proudly South African.
She’s an opportunist and had no role representing us.
She stole from Ms Rivers out of pity! Nyeka deserves the win but Ben wanted to win a twitter war with SA. Despicable to say the least!
She doesn’t represent us. If she did, Nigeria would have been her first choice.
She didn’t even answer the pageant question.
Nyekachi was robbed abeg.
Emotions be the end of Nigeria

Chidima she should’ve declined the invitation and tell them that “thank you for the invitation I will pass this one because y’all are already far let the girls finish I will start next year” And I will come to Nigeria to learn about my culture 1st and to the interviews that’s how you respond and be emphatic to other people’s feelings NO NOT CHIDIMA.Its all about her trust me that girl she doesn’t care about Nigeria, She doesn’t know nothing about Nigeria, let alone stay there . This is her stepping stone of going to the US and they’re going claim asylum (xenophobia ) and blah blah blah.I feel sorry for the original girls who are born and bred in Nigeria who worked hard to be in that position.

And our queen Miss Kwara the women who helps the girls in Nigeria, the women who want change, the women who is plus size like me we love you.🇿🇦

How ridiculous and shameful what that man Nicholas had to gk through, no wonder people run away from Nigeria...our costitution at least allows for freedom of speech and thats why many Nigerians feel more free here in SA.

1. What I want to understand is why is the matter of the identity theft by her mother not being noted whenever Nigerian blogs or shows mention the reason why South Africans were up I arms? Somehow you guys always conveniently leave out the portion. 2. By virtue that her mother signed her BC using a stolen ID her citizen according to law then has to be questioned. The investigation is still ongoing. Do not compare Mia to Chidimma as Mia is fully "South African" with two "South African" parents.

There’s still so much to process regarding this competition, I’m all for integrity and feel she should’ve been invited to compete in 2025, it appears the org had clear bias which did disservice to other delegates. I have nothing against Chidinma, I rooted for her and I deeply sympathise with her story and happy for her success but I do agree this seemed rigged in her favour based on her performance…on the positive, at least it’s given Nigerian pageantry the spotlight it well deserves but at what cost? I’m praying for her mental health now because the road to Mexico will be interesting….
