I've seen some comments that I thought were worth addressing! Here is a quick summary of why I was excited to share this short:

This short is meant to be about how we need to consider lifecycle emissions of products (nothing is really zero emissions) and how great solar is compared to other options - even when fossil fuels are used to make it.

Alat (who receive funding from the Saudi sovereign wealth fund) sponsored this video, but they are just used as an example of how we should aim to have clean energy used in the manufacturing processes of clean energy systems too. The same could be said for other countries built on the back of fossil fuels that are transitioning to clean energy.

When I say they have abundant solar power, I mean in terms of the energy available to be captured - not necessarily just what they are currently capturing. KAUST in Saudi is one of the world leading research centre for solar energy, doing incredible work by incredible researchers (also funded by the Saudi sovereign wealth fund).

When I visited Saudi and spoke to the engineers working at Alat, it felt no different to speaking with engineers anywhere else in the world. They are doing exciting work for sustainable manufacturing and I am genuinely excited to see what they produce.

Good luck with your solar powered mining and excavation equipment

So a company in Saudi Arabia, the world's No. 1 oil exporter and No. 9 gas exporter, for whom fossil fuels account for almost 50% of their GDP, pays you to say that they produce solar panels that emit no CO2, yeah sounds like greenwashing at it's finest, I'm a bit disappointed by this ad, especially when you see the research work that you normally do in your videos.

Even if the products were 100% handmade by human hands, it won't be zero carbon, because what we eat like meat, veg, or fruits contains carbon (proteins, carbohydrates, fats, etc), which we need to fuel our bodies.

Plain common sense. If we don't prepare for the certainty of change, catastrophe ensures.

Hi Mr. Ziroth, I was wondering if you could do some follow-up videos on some of your other videos that introduce new technology? Then we could see how the new technology is being deployed and if it's more available to people at large?

Carbon is a plot for tax. Try not to take it seriously

Warranty for solar panels is 25 years. They should keep producing decent power for a couple decades longer

In theory it can be but in practice it won't.
Saudi Arabia doesn't have only abundance of solar energy they also have a little abundance of fossil fuel and gas.
Manufacturing happens day and night.
And extracting all the stuff out of nature is actually the biggest part of energy consumption.
So the only way it could work is by recycling and only producing when daylight is available.
This will be unbelievable costly and could never compete with current production methods in China not even with production methods in Europe.

We need more carbon dioxide. Food isnt abundant and all the concrete cities contribute to disrupting the weather with thermal up drafts. Humans should focus on one problem at a time. Food and clean water should be priority number 1🎉

Clean energy is a myth. Every source of energy has its ups and downs. However, we should focus more on how the energy is produced and used. According to ethical standards should be our main concern. What's the point producing "clean" (greenwashing) energy if that same energy is used to manufacture more useless trash...?

Earth's atmosphere is barely above 0.03% carbon dioxide. Increasing that toward 0.04% makes it possible for most plants to grow in more arrid climates, turning our deserts green. If it drops to 0.02% then most plants can't survive, and the global ecosystem collapses.

For those people that scream for zero carbon emissions, I have to say this. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH, AND MAYBE GOT A BIT SMARTER TO WORK ON A COST EFFECTIVE CLEAN RESOURCE THAT EVERYONE CAN USE INSTEAD OF WINNING ABOUT IT. ALSO, CARBON ISN'T THE OWN GREENHOUSE GAS, along with it being the weakest, THAT'S DOING THE DAMAGE!!!!

YOU are the carbon they want to reduce.

Carbon dioxide has been steady in the atmosphere. If you reduce that amount you will have a much harder time growing your vegetables. Are you sure you have thought this through?

The answer is NO. Clean everrgy is in the same bucket as perpetual motion.
