As someone waiting for the a7V, I'm prepared to be either really excited or pretty under-whelmed.

Sony is in an interesting spot compared to its competitors in that they don't have a true Z8/R5ii competitor since the a1ii just slightly better than those and it's $2, 000 more. Couple that with Panasonic dropping the S1Rii and it's a beast for the price too, which probably is making Sony scramble.

My personal theory is that Sony was planning on releasing the a7V right now and maybe caught wind of some other stuff in the pipelines of other manufacturers and they realized that what they were going to ship wasn't good enough for the price. And let's face it, the Z6iii, S5ii, and maybe the R6ii are better cameras than the a7IV, which is why I think the a7V is an important camera for them. As an a7iii shooter since 2019, I've never been closer to switching to Nikon than I am right now... provided that the E mount to Z adapters are as good as I think they are, I could very easily buy a Z8 today and use my Sony glass.

Really hoping that the a7V is a superstar though!

I'll say goodbye to Sony if they will not beat last year Nikon Z6 III which gives us 4k 120fps, raw video shooting, 20 FPS with electronic shutter, pixel shifting etc. Nikon shows they can do it right, I feel that Sony disappoint again

15 fps and improved IBIS would be most likely and reasonable. I doubt is Sony will implement pre capture in the a7V. They have to be careful not to lose sales on the high end model(s). Speaking of high end, I am still waiting for my pre order of the new Sony a1 ii, which seems to be in perpetual delay. As for the new Sony 400-800, I am not currently tempted. I was more impressed with the Sigma 300-600 f/4 release. I would be tempted to purchase that and give up my 30 fps for the use cases in low light situations and then switch over to my other lenses (70-200 2.8 ii or 200-600) as light improves.

As a Sony user, I'm tempted like no other time EVER! to switch to Lumix with that new S1 RII... It packs all the stuff Sony would not be willing to even at a higher price range...

I was hoping for a release in april, so a long delay is disappointing.
I want at least 15 fps, 8 stop IBIS, a better EVF and perhaps pre capture.

If there's a sizable resolution and burst shooting bump. I'm buying it. if not, Then I'll probably go with the A1 II

These 5 upgrades would make me switch from the A7IV to the A7V.. 4k60 no crop, 4k120 w/ crop, better stabilization, import LUTs, AI autofocus... and hopefully it won't be more than $2500-2700

Pricing might be part of it, but they can't fill their orders for A1ii (the next batch not expected til May).

I doubt they're gonna give us 4K 120fps or 15fps stills shooting in the A7V -- they'll probably segment those features out for the pricier models. 15fps stills would be A9 or A1, 5K 120fps would be A9/A1/FX3/possibly a new ZV-E1.

For me to upgrade I want 15 fps, 4K 60 no crop, 8 stop IBis, better EVF and better LCD display.
Personally I have never used 4K 120 fps but that is a plus.

I bet they've delayed this so that it doesn't undercut sales for the A1ii

It would be stupid to delay the release of the A7 V as many people will go with the competition. Asking for 4k at 120 is asking for overheating issues.

4k60fps no crop, (4k120fps with crop maybe), 6k open gate, AI autofocus, better stabilization, be able to add LUTs to the video, better LCD screen.

You covered it quickly but without faster frame rate and pre-capture Sony’s current offering of the A9III and A1 II don’t kick in until $6000. I just was able to get a Canon R5 Mk II new for only $3600 USD so I added one to try since I’m already a two system shooter. Even the Nikon Z8 is below that price but without RAW pre-capture but with 20 FPS. Delaying delivery now until late 2025 is a killer problem for me personally. Thank you and take care.

I think the price will be close to 2900 euros, for that price I don't expect 120 4K , neither 15 frames a second. AI for AF for sure a sensor that maybe a little bigger. More efficient stabilization and that's it for the main part. In fact I don' t expect much from that camera that is a made for general purpose. I am stuck to this brend because all the lenses I have, and I regret it every day !!!

I don't think there's much of a market for an A7V people who want to do more video will go to the FX lineup (like I'm doing) People who do action will move on to the A9. BTW as primarily a videographer, I don't even notice rolling shutter and as for the 4k at 120, I don't see a need for it. 30 fps slow motion looks great.

I wish we would get an Updated Batis lineup. I bought every Batis Lens and pretty much only shoot with them. They've been great, even with 4k 10 bit video, but could use an update on the Size and overall sharpness wide open. For me, the A7 IV is peak for stills. Since I do more video, my next camera will be in the FX lineup.
