wow this was brutally honest video, I think we need more of this harsh truth out there so everybody can know the way software engineer suffer everyday

I've been thinking about getting into coding. As someone who's mostly worked in physical labor industries I'm getting tired of working in harsh environments and constantly damaging my body. Coding doesn't seem nearly as bad to work in.

Thank you for being honest about our field. In addition to being told the job is so glamourous, a lot of young people being misled in other ways! They don't understand how much hard work is involved in learning to code in the first place and are being told by people who got in back when software devs were very rare and in very high demand regardless of experience that it's so easy to get a job, even self-taught. But CS grads were much more rare back then and companies were much more willing to invest in a newbie dev and train them. Now, they often will not. Now it's pretty damn competitive at the entry-level and most places are looking for mid to senior level

I start my first programming job on Tuesday, hoping it’s as exciting as these day in the life videos are.

My job is 100% remote but I basically just sit at home, conduct meetings, attend meetings, work work and more work, log out, no fluff lol.

It’s accurate for a lot of places. I think it’s also worth pointing out not everywhere is this mundane. I feel sorry for people having to work in sprints like this. Once your org matures into lean, and you switch to customer needs (instead of coding pre solutionised problems) and use kanban, weighted shortest job first, trunk based dev, ci/cd and pair programming. The daily grind is a lot more interesting and fun. You move faster and more iteratively with a lot less waste. So much time is wasted in Scrum / Scrummerfall ceremonies and cargo culting rituals it get’s you down eventually. Anyhow, great video!

Why are these videos always so satisfying to watch?

I can’t wait to make this video once I get a software job.

Where's the part where you run into an impossible bug, go to your bedroom, take a pillow, sink your face in it, and scream through the depths of your soul?...

Or is it just me?

"unblock others from getting their job done"
sounds like the best kind of meeting lol

Hit the nail on the head, 100%! Only thing you forgot is the unfortunate push of cult-ee books and lectures in the name of "company culture."

This video is on point! I was laughing at how similar my day is to what's being described in the video.

Super cool video, can't help but notice your background of your set up, looks a bit different from when you did your wfh setup! Did you condense everything and only kept the useful ones? :) anyway, thanks for showing us a honest day in a life of a swe

I’m very interested in programming. I’m going to bust my butt and teach myself and possibly get my degree in CS!
