Here are another 14 differences between the remastered version of Metroid Prime and the original Gamecube game. We made a new selection of interesting details, from graphic design changes (thermal visor, enemy shadows, chozo ruins' skybox and lens flare effects...) to subtle gameplay tunings (charge shot cancel), with 1:1 comparisons.

Speaking of remade cutscenes, remember at the start of the game when Samus loses her upgrades after the explosion? Well, instead of a big bright flash covering up the model swap, in the remastered her power armor slightly glows and you can see parts like her shoulder pads disintegrate showing a flawless transition between the two suits.

The developers went so far above and beyond what could ever have been reasonably expected of them with this remaster. It’s incredible!

I never thought about this before but I love the fact that Samus left her ship running while she was gone. Like she was thinking she wasn't really going to be gone all that long so why bother?

The water falling off the arm cannon is sick! I feel bad i didnt actually ever realize it

Honestly this shows how beautiful the original games was. That game looked incredible when it came out and still looks incredible now

The blur effect added on to the Thermal Visor was one of the only changes I didn't like. It may be more realistic that way, but using it for parts that require quick movements (like fighting Pirates or Thardus) made it visually muddled at times.

@2:15 Another detail is that when you're looking upwards the rain will patter onto your visor, but if you're looking down/straight the rain won't hit your visor.

It's funny how not all the changes are positive. There are some details that I miss from the OG game like how beams could light up the surrounding area. Overall I enjoyed the remaster a lot, but man they need to add an option to turn off motion blur from that visor.

I really want a remaster for 2 & 3.

When I got to Chozo Ruins the first place I went was to see if I could see Samus' reflection in the ornament on the wall. I was more than disappointed.

Man, the way Samus walks towards Thardus is so cool. Like she looks like she's about to roll up her arm cannon and beat some golem booty

strange to see they added environment illumination with the magmoor flamethrowers, but removed it from the beam weapons.

also, nice to see the thermal visor much more accurately reflect a real life FLIR camera, including the motion blur.

Speaking of changed cutscenes, in the final boss fight when Samus is chasing Metroid Prime through the crater, she winds up for her somersaults in a much more realistic manner by doing a small hop at the end of her run before putting all her weight into the flip. She didn't do that in the original game and it went directly from running to the somersault.

4:45 There's also a tunnel ion Phendrana's Edge that you take with reflecting surfaces in morph ball mode that doesn't reflect anything anymore.

I would say my favorite change was the boost ball changing colors based on equipment, it turns purple when in gravity suit and red when in the phazon suit!

I think the updated Samus animations really go a long way. Especially during the final boss fight. Really made the run and jumping look clean.

It's crazy that the original has some things I wish they would have kept in the remaster, like the room with light rays and the reflection if samus in the glass. Speaks volumes to how much love was put into the game the whole time.

Man I love watching clips of this game. Metroid was the first franchise I think I really got behind, starting with Prime. I'm of the opinion that sometimes, these older games felt more expansive and immersive because they were NOT open world. Suspended disbelief and the thought of "what could be beyond those rocks, those trees, that blocked door" almost makes the world feel that much bigger and you that much smaller. I love a big open world (Zelda: BotW was incredible) and I'd love to see that in Prime 4, but there's a special characteristic in these old games that forced you to use your imagination.

I never knew you could see Samus' reflection in those wall shields.
