Frances Bean Cobain -- I Hate Nirvana ... and My Father's No Hero

Musical taste trumps DNA for Frances Bean Cobain , because it turns out she doesn't like Nirvana -- and her feelings about her father aren't much better. Cobain told Rolling Stone she's just not much of a fan of Kurt Cobain 's old band, instead preferring the likes of Mercury Rev , Oasis , and Brian Jonestown Massacre . Frances Bean, who only referred to her father by his first name, did single out the song "Dumb" ... describing it as "a stripped-down version of Kurt's perception of himself on drugs, off drugs, feeling inadequate to be titled the voice of a generation."

Good way to take what someone says completely out of context.  Classy!

This video is presented in a very dishonest way.

This title/video are very misleading and have done a lot of twisting of Frances' words. If you read her interview with Rolling Stone that was released last month (which, in my opinion, was conducted very well) where she talks about what she wanted to express in Montage of Heck, you'll see that she says that she wanted to debunk all of the "mythology and romanticism" that revolves around Kurt in the documentary and to try and show people that he was a real person who suffered through many real, personal troubles and that there was absolutely nothing worth glorifying about his addiction and death. At the same time, I think she wanted people to appreciate his artistry on a personal level, and if you see the documentary it does a very good job of illuminating his creative mind and highlighting why that made Nirvana successful. She says: "My dad was exceptionally ambitious. But he had a lot thrown on him, exceeding his ambition. He wanted his band to be successful. But he didn't want to be the fucking voice of a generation." And I think there is some validity in trying to express these notions when they are coming from his own daughter, who never wanted to see him as a "hero" and only really wanted to see him as her father.

Also, Frances never says that she "hates" Nirvana. She says that there are other bands from the 90s that she likes better but then goes on to name some of her favourite Nirvana songs that resonate with her. Though none of us have ANY idea what kind of father Kurt would have been had he lived, as none of us knew him personally, I at least hope that he would have encouraged Frances to develop her own tastes in music and draw inspiration from whichever sources she wished, as I am sure that is what he did to help develop his own creativity.

Guys, this is distorted. All she said was she's not a fan, she didn't say she hated Nirvana. She never rebuked her father, she enforced the humbleness of who he was.

SOUNDS LIKE A WHOLE LOT OF COURTNEY HERE. LOOKS LIKE SHE HAS POISONED HER DAUGHTER'S MEMORIES OF CURT, CONSIDERING SHE WAS ONLY A BABY WHEN HE DIED. GOOD JOB COURTNEY. MOTHER OF THE YEAR, NOT.

I think she's right about him not being a hero. So many fans consider him one.
That's she doesn't like Nirvana is cool. Most girls don't.

Frances, l feel sorry you were raised by your mother...had Kurt stuck around(and cleaned up) you would have been a much more intelligent and grounded individual.

Why does she keep his name then?  I'll bet it didn't hurt when she got a job as an intern at Rolling Stone.

"Montage of Heck"-interesting stuff-so sad how Kurt's daughter never knew him at all, yet still reaps the benefits of his stardom-just listening to Courtney talking about how she "thought about"(but never did)cheat on Kurt-lies, lies, lies-all well documented-so looks like right now Frances is cozy with her "Mother", but I've watched that go up and down and around for a very long time -wonder how she would feel if she hadn't been fed with the proverbial silver spoon all these years---just food for thought-so wishing this case would be re-opened and somehow the truth of all of this would finally come out-we can only hope and pray for that miracle to happen-not holding my breath though on that....money can and does buy all kinds of

What they burn through Kurts estate. If my dad was famous and left me and my kids a lasting means of living comfortable I would praise and forgive him daily he built it from the dark, hungry and lonely street. He paid the price of living in a spiral so give him your respect.I'm sure having and using his name is very benefiting especially to your mom.

...in a strange way, that fits her father in a strange way...finding musical taste in I guess what you could title alternative music, more mood lifting, still somewhat obscure bands, to the disdain of the present pop environment, and her parents...yeah, she still has him in her DNA. Luckily she seems like she's a person who, 's comfortable with herself, unlike her father, and hopefully she makes great visual pieces in the future.

If she really said that then What a spoiled child. She says this crap when she want all that money his father even in death making her millions.
Such a spoiled rich kid.

I think its rather disrespectful to refer to her father as "Kurt"...regardless of if she really knew him or not, he really loved her and thats all that should matter to her. She is judging him for not loving himself. But yet, she certainly is making sure she keeps her paws on "Kurt's" fortune though. Seems to me like that apple didn't fall far from the tree of "Love".

Uh so she doesn't like Nirvana who the hell cares? She's allowed to like whatever bands she wants just because she's Kurt's daughter doesn't mean she has to kiss his band's ass. Second her calling Kurt by his first name is a choice she made a LONG time ago because she explained she never knew him. She has referred to him as "dad" in some occasions. Jesus people lighten the hell up the kid was a baby when her dad died and who knows what her crazy mother told her.
