I believed the fact about goldfish 3 second memory before i got one. The fish reacts to me approaching the tank and also to rattling of fishfood when i feed it, and the fish knows why tank lid is opened. So it`s pretty smart. I think this myth grew from confusing "3 second memory" and "3 second attention span"

How ironic: It's a Tree of Knowledge, and yet we don't know what the fruit was.

Edit: Wow, this exploded. Time to address a couple of things.

1) Practicing Christian here. My comment was not designed as criticism* against the book itself. I merely observed the words on their own terms and the inherent irony.
2) I am well aware the knowledge is "of sin." This is what leads to Adam & Eve covering their exposed bodies. Again, I am using the words by their narrowest definition, not necessarily accounting for the entire context.
3) It is generally my belief that altering the facts to suit your jokes is lazy humor. That said, I'm willing to make an exception here because I believe it works. If you don't think the joke lands, then that comes down to different tastes. More power to you if that's your take.
