The Weaver and the Witch Queen is a historical fantasy-- Erik Bloodaxe and Gunnhild were real people! He was briefly king of Norway in the 900s, then was king of Northumbria in England (twice). I was so excited when I figured out who these characters were, and loved how they were portrayed, since Gunnhild always seems to be a villain when the history of the era comes up. You might check out Linnea Hartsuyker's Half-Drowned King trilogy. It's set a little before Weaver and the Witch Queen, and in basically the same area, plus England and Iceland.
