Very interesting video to say the least. It is awesome that it was caught on to before they could do too much damage financially.

I was a YouTuber a while ago, albeit a small one. But made enough to pay rent and live for a year or two. Since I quit I’ve gone to school and became a security researcher. I feel like Google/YouTube should make regularly scheduled security updates and attempt videos going over how these attacks are happening, how to prevent them and continually not only improve their security standards. But educate both users and creators. I know there are security focused channels. But I couldn’t really find up to date info specifically focused on YouTube channels and emails related to YouTube channel videos with best practices included. This would be monumentally positive for everyone on YouTube. They need to take this more serious and make creators feel safe and actually keep them safe. (Of course this was a targeted attack but more sec standards and less buggy UI would have made this a lot less damaging).

I think one of the worst aspects of this attack was they publicised a lot of the videos that were marked "do not publish".

It seems the LTT team were using YouTube as video storage (not a bad idea unless you didn't want them ever to be live)

Please forgive my ignorance! Is there anyway for the attackers to compromise affect the accounts of people who viewed the live streams without clicking on anyting?

This shouldn't surprise anyone. Linus is not really a technical person. He is the definition of "knows enough to be dangerous"

He's lost multiple server RAID arrays because he thought RAID was a good "backup."

Linus should be held responsible for whomever lost money due to his channel being hacked.
