Today's short is how to paint Thousand Sons red Horus Heresy era armour. It's basically a candy red for space marines. I really enjoyed painting this Horus Heresy era armour, and I suppose if I were to paint Thousand Sons for 40k, I might still use this!

Layering Contrasts over metallic quickly became my favorite way to use them after i realized how nice the end result looked.

For the metallic paints I use an airbrush and it works great.

I feel like you could achieve the same or even better with just base leadbelcher spray, shade and few highlights

The red is so intense it basically renders your underpainting pointless. I think you'd be better off saving that effort for after the red is applied -- or going for heavier contrast before you apply it, maybe.

Gold does make a nice base for metallic red though.

I did something similar a while back, only I covered the red in Spiritstone Red technical paint afterwards. It's meant for tiny gemstones but it went on really smooth and gave it this lovely gloss candy coat look.

This similar to how I did my Blood Angels for 40K. I like my armour more metallic looking. I use silver for my Ultramarines and Gunmetal for Space wolves.

i don't think i've seen people paint warhammer seriously with a brush most of the stuff these days its all spray but its pretty good looking for brush, i'd have to imagine the sprays are better for gradient colors and changing of tones or blending but on a small scale brush still applies well and it accentuates the cartoonish look of miniatures since warhamnmer shit is already ridiculous
