Elwyn's Final Salute

Показать описание
Elwyn Ralph Caldwell, 92, was a tall thin quiet, unassuming man who served his country in WWII and Korea.
Caldwell passed away Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016 and was buried Friday.
Though only a handful were on hand to say goodbye, Caldwell made a lasting impression on many in the community.
Meet some of those folks and witness his final farewell in my Photographer's Journal video titled 'Elwyn's Final Salute.'

Obituary:
AUBURN — Mr. Elwyn Ralph Caldwell, 92, of Hamilton Avenue, Auburn, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016 at Oswego Hospital.
He was a U.S. Army and Air Force veteran, having served in World War II in the Army, and with the Air Force in Korea. He remained active in the Disabled American Veterans, being a member and chaplin for over 50 years. He was also a member of SK Post of the American Legion.
He was able to travel to Washington, D.C. on the Knights of Columbus trip Enduring Gratitude, to tour the historic monuments, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
A frequent visitor around downtown Auburn, he would often enjoy visiting at the veterans office and enjoy his coffee on the Genesee Street benches where he made many friends.
Elwyn was born in Pleasant Valley, Kansas, the son of James R. and Anna White Caldwell. A graduate of the local high school, later in life he took adult classes at Cayuga Community College. He was employed at Auburn Memorial Hospital, was an Auburn city fireman for many years, and had also worked at GE Auburn.
He is survived by many friends here in Auburn, including Karen Cunningham and Pamela Chaffee; and relatives in Kansas.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Phyllis; and brother, Chester.
Photographer's note: According to US Department of Veterans Affairs statistics, 372 WWII veterans die each day. There are only 620,000 of the 16 million Americans who served in World War II alive in 2016.
