2025 BMW i5 5-series Touring Revealed
Показать описание
The BMW 5 Series Touring, known for its driving pleasure, sporty elegance, and modern functionality, is stepping into a new phase. The sixth generation of the BMW 5 Series Touring brings in a wave of advancements, including digital innovations, automated driving and parking systems, enhanced sustainability across its lifecycle, and, for the first time, an all-electric drive in the form of the BMW i5 Touring. The new BMW 5 Series Touring is a versatile car for daily driving and long trips, offering a stylish presence, impressive sportiness, flexibility, and spacious comfort.
For fans of BMW wagons looking for speed, the i5 is the choice trim. The i5 M60 xDrive Touring tops the range with 593 horsepower and up to 605 pound-feet of torque in boost mode. It shares the same setup as the sedan, but the wagon's extra weight slows it down a tad. BMW claims it can reach 62 mph in 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 143 mph, limited by the factory. Opting for the i5 eDrive40 model, with the front motor removed, gives you a maximum output of 335 hp and a 0-62 mph sprint in 6.1 seconds. However, this comes at the cost of range, which increases to a maximum of 348 miles compared to 314 under Europe's WLTP cycle.
In the realm of combustion engines, the new 5 Series Touring offers mild hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrains. The 530e combines BMW's turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine with an electric motor, delivering a total of 295 hp and an electric-only range of up to 60 miles. The all-wheel-drive version maintains the same output but reduces the range to a maximum of 55 miles. The 520d features a 2.0-liter turbo diesel with a mild-hybrid system, producing 195 hp, available with rear- or all-wheel drive. Additionally, there's the 540d xDrive Touring, equipped with a 3.0-liter mild-hybrid V6 turbo diesel engine, delivering 295 hp.
Notably absent from BMW's announcement is any mention of the M5 Touring. While camouflaged prototypes have been spotted globally, there's no word on whether the high-performance M5 wagon will be available in the US. Speculations suggest it could feature a hybrid powertrain similar to the XM, potentially offering up to 700 hp, which could pose a challenge to Audi RS6 Avant owners.
Details about the new M5 are expected to emerge in the coming months. European customers can anticipate the release of the new 5 Series wagon starting in May, initially with the i5 Touring and mild-hybrid four-cylinder models, followed by plug-in hybrid trims and the 540d xDrive later in the summer.
