In Delhi, the situation remained grim with the city recording 24,375 new cases and 167 deaths. What is also a matter of concerns is that on Saturday, Delhi had a case positivity rate of 24.56 per cent. In other words, every fourth person in the city whose sample was taken in the past 24 hours, tested positive for the viral disease. This was Delhi's highest single-day spike as well as the highest daily case positivity rate.
In a video address, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said Delhi is facing a shortage of ICU beds, medical oxygen and Remdesivir to treat Covid-19 patients. Terming the health crisis in Delhi "very serious and worrisome", he said hospital beds are filling up fast as cases are rising alarmingly.
Kejriwal also sought help from the Centre to augment hospital beds and oxygen supply, and address the shortage of life-saving drugs. He demanded that the Centre should reserve 50 per cent of the total pool of beds in hospitals run by it in Delhi for Covid-19 patients.
"Our biggest target is to augment beds with oxygen supply attached," he said. In the next three-four days, the government will add 6,000 more beds, including 1,300 at Yamuna Sports Complex and 2,500 at Radhaswami Satsang premises, he said.
