How to use a data acquisition system in 3 steps

Learn how to make temperature measurements with a DAQ by following three easy steps.

There are three key steps for data acquisition systems:

Step 1: Connect and configure your hardware
Step 2: Setup and run tests
Step 3: Export and analyze data

The purpose of any data acquisition system is to gather useful measurement data for characterization, monitoring, or control.

When performing product characterization, you will likely need to:
• Measure multiple inputs, such as ten temperature points
• Measure multiple types of inputs, (e.g. voltage, current, temperature)
• Optimize test accuracy and measurement speed

When monitoring a product or a process, you will likely need to:
• Take readings periodically, for example, every minute for 36 hours
• Pre-process or compute the data while recording them into a file for post processing analysis
• Trigger external alarm lights, sirens or control systems to take corrective actions

When controlling your test process is required, you will need to:
• Provide analog output signals to control actuators, motors
• Provide digital output signals to control devices
• Route signals using a switching card to power or connect test signals to a device

Do you use a DAQ? What do you use it for?

DAQ is a very usefull measuring instrument. I used it with Lab View to measure temperature. As an electroninc engineering student it is not possible for me to get one of these due to the price.

Hello Sir, I want to store the data in the form of a change in dc voltage at the rate of more than 50000 readings/sec. is it possible with DMM or DAQ and the voltage range is in mVolt?

This looks like a tasty piece of kit. I love this make but alas back to the home made slow timebase and the old HP storage scope with lots of sum's . Still when teaching Apprentice's it shows how to be resourceful I guess I should get a quote :-/

ElectroBOOM needs your help to do with KVL. There is a proffesor who thinks that KVL does not always hold up and he is discrediting Medghi practical tests and is making out that his fans are flat earthers and religious nuts. He failed to close the loop and it is a simple test you can do to dissaprove his theory. We are counting on you as learning electrical engineers. Please don't let us down i love your products and test equipment by the way. Stay humble.

I asked for a logic analyzer video series. If keysight can build a UXR1104A (great scope, I am using it) then a video series would not be hard

I'm using NI PCIe-6251 which I bought for 50 bucks ;) All my measurements is done by my own c# code:)

Don't know why I watch your videos, tbh; one day I'm gonna buy a tool from Keysight, I guess.
Your videos are nice and easy. ;D Thank you!

With a DAQ I could finally set my oven to actual 375°, and broil my garlic bread just right xD.

I'm pretty sure I saw people using a DAQ to prove ghosts exist on the history channel. You forgot to mention the DAQ's totally legit use for ghost detecting/busting.

Those poor relays, I hope nobody has a need to capture all the maximum data points multiplexing whole time like that :p What sort of sick application would require exporting to word? Also it seems like overkill for most of the applications you listed unless you add prototyping to all of these.

P.S. I bet you can also program it as the most expensive alarm clock :p
