I work as a critical nurse in UK. Here we use noradrenaline peripherally with 18G cannula or larger. We dilute 4 mg norad in 250 ml of NS (not in D5) to make concentration of 16 micrograms per ml and give maximum dose of .3micrograms/kg/min. Site is frequently monitored for any extravasation.

What is the minimal dose of vaspressor Or ionotropes to put a central line??
If we are giving ionotropes Or vaspressor at a rate of 2 or 3 ml per hour, can we keep central line.

Help!
Recently came across a situation working at a new hospital. The patient had a central line and was receiving levophed. His pressure was dropping gradually so as I was hanging a new bag I decided to run it Y'ed in with a KVO going at around 15-20ml/hr
Another nurse saw this and blew up about how"you never run anything, even fluids with pressors"
When I explained that I did this because the levo was running at such a miniscule rate, maybe half a mL an hour, that by adding the KVO runner I'd A ) get the drug to the patient faster and B ) any titrations would take effect sooner. She didn't know what to say other than that she wouldn't have done it this way.
Am I incorrect? I sincerely want to know and correct my approach to pressor use if so. I've dug around for articles but can't seem to find anything regarding this specifically.
Anyone's opinions would be appreciated!
