'If We Don't Protect Nature We Can't Protect Ourselves' Harrison Ford | Extinction Rebellion

We are facing an emergency resulting from our toxic economic and political system. The way we relate to each other and to nature is destroying Earth’s capacity to sustain life.

Unending economic growth and profits drawn from a planet with limited resources is causing gross inequality, poverty, mass misery, and species extinction.

We are sold an illusion that consumption will bring purpose and happiness into our lives, yet this systemic consumption is threatening our very existence. It is based on unjust and unethical land use and ownership, unsustainable and increasing amounts of debt and enslavement of individuals.

Power and money is concentrated in the hands of the few, while the masses struggle to simply survive. It is causing climate breakdown and biodiversity collapse.

As Greta Thunberg has been saying since the ‘Declaration of Rebellion’ last October 31:

'We can no longer save the world by playing by the rules. Because the rules have to be changed.

Everything needs to change. And it has to start today.

So, everyone out there, it is now time for civil disobedience. It is time to rebel.’

"Only when the last tree is cut, the last fish is caught, and the last river polluted; when to breathe the air is sickening, you will realize that wealth is not in bank accounts and that you can not eat money". - Alanis Obomsawin, 1972
(NOTE - This is a correction from the Cree Proverb originally posted. This quote actually originated from Alanis Obomsawin, a Native American (Abenaki) filmmaker, singer, artist and activist.)

What a powerful speech.
It is incredible to think, that, with so much on the line, this crisis, we are all facing, is not on the top of everyone's priority list. Instead, what do we see? Greed. The hunger for power and money, that has become entirely useless to us decades ago.
We are connected, so why do we not work as one? Why is it, that survival is only second to pleasure at the cost of everything? How ignorant are we and how ignorant will we continue to be?

We are humanity. Our strength lies in cooperation. So work together for crying out loud, lest we face annihilation at our own hands.

Thank you so damn much for making this video. My husband is from West Sumatra, and together we saw the large scale rain forest destruction by foreign profiteers. My husband saw nomadic tribes crossing the road as a teen, but now they are gone due to the efforts of the psychopathic capitalists who obliterated the forests in West Sumatra's Riau province. Thank you so goddamn much for making this video and for continuing to use your platform to work for change.

Personally I'm not very optimistic about the survival of this "present version of mankind". Our technology has outpaced our wisdom, and our greed has outpaced our compassion.
Whether it's natural or man-made, our Extinction is closer than we think.

This how the real humans have to act. Dont think about yourself of power. Think about the future and Nature. He’s telling the truth. We need to listen to him and recover nature💪🏾🌱❤️

Wow, Mr. Ford I'm very proud of you for passionately speaking about this and you speak for thousands who feel this way compared to the few voices destroying Mother Earth. It's immoral and irresponsible to not care what we do to her and I hope those thousands of voices will drown out the few! Thank you for a magnificent speech!
