When I was a kid my dad and my grandfather got stranded on the side of the road on a snowy evening in central Nebraska. This was before cell phones so they had to wait until a car came by to get help. But few cars came and none stopped. My dad curled up in a blanket just off the shoulder to sleep while grandpa, a rather large man, took up a crowbar and tried to fix whatever was wrong with the car. Finally a state trooper stopped to say he could help after he investigated the "murder" that had been reported that night along that same stretch of road.

Eventually dad and grandpa made it home. No murder scene was ever discovered. They're pretty sure some driver had seen them and got the wrong idea.
