Even in TAS, there seems to be a connection between the two. In one episode when Joker is going to bomb Gotham, the first person Harley asks about is Crane and in another episode, Crane is being taken in violently and yelling / threatening the cops but pauses when he sees Harley to congratulate her.

I never liked the idea of Harleen having bad grades and sleeping her way through her teachers to get good ones. Not only is it just kinda gross, but I find the idea of Harleen being genuinely well educated academically but falling for the Joker anyway more compelling. It subverts the idea that only stupid or uneducated people get seduced into abusive relationships like the Joker and Harley’s. That anyone, regardless of grades or intelligence, can be susceptible to that kind of emotional manipulation under the right circumstances.

I think this might be a reference to Harley’s Holiday where Scarecrow rants like a madman as he’s brought into Arkham before stopping to politely greet Harley before going back to yelling like a madman.

One of the storylines I would love to see, though it was just glossed over is Dr. Harleen Quinzel and Dr. Johnathan Crane working together at Arkham Asylam before the Joker. In more of a Year One setting.

If these two had a working relationship in psyche it would give better cadence to a romantic intrest, despite there was never really one expressed

I do hate the “Harley sleeps her way into a phd” interpretations of her character. I know she’s a villain and isn’t meant to be looked at for moral decisions but one fewer universe where she’s not simply a genius villain is better in my books

You know what, Harley cheating through college does explain why she was so gullable and easy to be foole by the Joker despite being a psychologist. Like bro 70% of Gotham PD have probably nothing more then a highschool diploma they are smarter than that.

I was never too into the idea of Harley sleeping her way through university. Her being an actual physchologist despite everything is part of what makes the character fun and interesting.

It is unfortunate how many of Gothem's physchological science's community wind up in Arkham or deserving it. You also have individuals like the Mad Hatter and Dr. Hugo Strange. Several other therapist at Arkham have had episodal exposures of wrongful, mental illness driven behavior while positioned there and even the esteemed founder was one of these. Plus the riddler, while not specifically specializing in psychology, is still very versed on it and neural/behavioral processes most of the time in mod rn versions du to his fascination with people's problem solving capabilities as well as virtual reality integration. Pretty much anyone who delves into the processes of the mind and behaviorally linked impact is doomed to become a villainous psycho in the city.

Oh, and SOOO many specializing in criminal psychology both on the GPD force and special investigations units.
