Late-Breaker host, Dr Harriette Van Spall (McMaster University, CA) is joined by Prof Giuseppe Rosano (St George’s Hospitals NHS Trust University of London, UK), President of HFA to distil the key messages from the 2023 Focused Update of the 2021 ESC Guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic heart failure.

Prof Rosano summarises the retained ejection fraction-based heart failure classification system, encompassing HFrEF, HFmrEF, and HFpEF, while emphasising the necessity for change. Dr Van Spall asks Prof Rosano about the new HFpEF recommendations. They discuss the role of finerenone and SGLT2 inhibitors in the prevention of heart failure. Prof Rosano delves into recommendations made following the results from the STRONG-HF trial. They close the discussion on strategies for implementing the guidelines.

Thanks alot for the summary of the new updates and its clinical implications, no doubt we have different models of care so implenting all of it is a bit challenging.

Mild to moderate exercise, meditation, entertainment, and sociopsychological support especially finance are all cllectively as effective as beta blockers.

In other words, if we fail to fix our surrounding our heart fails, and so we block it internally from reacting and taking action.
