"Pillars of Democracy” is a playful interactive installation at the Parliament in Vienna, Austria. It invites everyone to engage with the meaning of democracy and to take a stand: on diversity, trust, participation, compromise, help, solidarity, respect and tolerance.
The Ars Electronica Futurelab created “Pillars of Democracy” for the Austrian Parliamentary Administration as part of their awareness campaign #MehralseinKreuzerl (More than a checkmark) for the National Council elections on September 29, 2024. Here, people of all ages can record a shadow video on one of the topics, to be shared via social media and presented larger than life on LED panels on the parliament building.
In this way, “Pillars of Democracy” encourages discussion and citizen participation throughout the nation, and Parliament is once more the people's house, with the message: We participate, we care, we vote!
