My daughter Ava has been asking me to build a vanity for a long time now. I waited a few years until she was tall enough to enjoy a full size vanity that would be something she could use for her entire life. In addition to Ava's specific requests, my wife requested the piece also serve as a desk where she could do her homework. In reality, she's only 8 years old and doesn't actually wear makeup yet, but she does enjoy painting her face with play makeup. This vanity evokes a clean and modern styling but features classic hand-cut dovetail joinery and wooden drawer slides. The door in the hutch, by request, is lighted via a touch-sensitive mirror though I've yet to come up with a good solution for routing the power cable. A simple mirror would substitute nicely. The video series and plans will walk you through every step of the build process so you can either build your own or adapt your newfound skills to another project entirely.

To truly center those drawers, your stop can reference the center divider when cutting both ends on the miter saw. Great cat video! lol :)

I have found that it is just easier to not shoot for a specific size on the front rail assembly. Rip it, plane it, glue it then cut the side and back rails to the same width.

Man, I can so relate to your frustrations with Oreo getting in the way ... had me cracking up! I can remember often being on deadline, trying to edit photos on the computer and despite a huge photo studio for Zap to sleep in, he just HAD to nap on my lap, stretched out with his head across my arms, preventing any hand movement whatsoever! He'd get so comfortable and the purrs would get cranking ... felt bad for disturbing him but dang dude, I gotta work! lol

I dunno if Oreo is like my cat, but I solved my issues with a cardboard box lid. It was from one of those boxes that are full of reams of paper. Prefect size to sit on my desk and with its magical abilities to attract cats, it worked purrrfectly. pun intended.
