When introducing The Last Children of Tokyo I find it important to mention that it is the same book as The Emissary so that people avoid buying both thinking they are different books when instead it's just a mix of US and UK titles. Unfortunately the execution of the book fell flat for me but I still think about the idea behind the book all the time.

New to the channel, but I’m so loving your content! I’m getting back into reading lately, so I’ve of course zealously picked up several books. Gender Queer, In Cold Blood, Sixth Extinction and a couple of Tana French novels are among the growing pile.

I watched your videos slightly out of order so I haven't seen you love yet but I'm looking forward to watching that one 😊

I’m very curious for the Companion Novel by Ali Smith, I loved the seasonal quartet (also love the look of the book)

The reading hunger is coming back. It's taken enough time, now if I could get back to work so I could afford the books and bills. But I love when you tell everyone about new books, love it. It's like a literary feast.

I love the sound of all these poetry collections, and I'm definitely going to place library holds for them.

I got the new Ali Smith and devoured it immediately. I did like it because of it's writing. I was not too happy with a dreamy part of the text but that is a personal preference, I don't always enjoy dreams within books. Still, I could see why she put it there and as usual, the book felt tense and challenging, interesting and complex. I can't wait to see your review.

I just finished Rachel's Holiday (in preparation for the author's follow up book), , ObamaNation, Hatchet Man (about William Barr former attorney general under Trump), Claire deWitt and the Bohemian Highway by Sara Gran, and Living Color (about writing and painting) by Natalie Goldberg.
Wishing you well with your upcoming move ... I hope you are getting a FABULOUS kitchen since you cook and bake so beautifully! x

I love your recommendations and warm, cosy vibes! Thank you! I went book shopping this week and picked up Companion Piece, Lanny by Max Porter (finally!), Elena Knows by Claudia Pineiro (having seen your Charco Press recommendations) and the beast, To Paradise by Hanya Yanigahara! Thanks for getting me so excited to read and hope the move goes well xx

I read Companion Piece as an arc after trying several times to read Smith and to my surprise I really enjoyed it. It is basically a story about the pandemic which turns into a fable on the theme of time.I saw it on my local library shelves yesterday and it is absolutely gorgeous.. About to pick up Life Ceremony and All The Lovers In The Night so can't wait to hear your thoughts.

I'm still making my way through the Womens Prize list. I'm currently reading the Kupersmith, Build your house around my body. I will continue to see where it is heading but so far I'm finding I'm not very invested in it.

Does anyone have any recommendations of nature writing by disabled authors and/or authors of colour? I really enjoy nature writing but find it so white and so frequently from a very privileged and abled experience.

Is being floppy a marker if Canadian editions? 😂

So many of these books sound so good!

I’ve read Walking in Cowrie Shells and The Children of Tokyo, but it was under a different name. Both were good, but not favourites. The story of the adoptee and the Zbie outbreak were two of my favourites in Cowrie Shells.

I am so excited to see you picked up Manhunt! Apparently some dudes are mad about it on twitter which makes it sound even more delicious!
