Original music for #GeekandSundry's #CriticalRole

SO this piece took research to pull off, I'd read that Matt had based a lot of Wildemount's culture off of real life Eastern European examples and I remember hearing a while back that his favourite instrument was violin so I implemented a mix of Eastern European folk music (Polish, Hungarian, etc.) into a very rhythmic orchestral. I'd started this piece a few days prior to the first episode so the fact that they're using music from the Witcher series actually coincides quite well with this. You may have noticed but I also worked Jason Charles Miller's original main theme into the ending and a violin passage mixed in with my own theme.

I'll go into a more in depth analysis if enough people want to know how this was made.

Even all these years later, this is THE Critical Role song. To me, not even the original theme captures the feel quite as well.

This really is THE Theme for Campaign 2.
Its got that grittyness, but also the triumph and challange.
It feels slavic with those low strings and Wildmount always felt very Germanic/Slavic/Nordic in vibe.
I hope, that if this piece is not the base of the Misadventures of the Mighty Nein show theme its either the end credits theme or the travel theme.

The music that plays during game breaks helps to capture the "heart" of the campaign. "Twin Elms" by Justin Bell is what played for campaign 1, and many of those who were there for C1 go back and listen to wax nostalgic. It hits you in the feels. You remember the good times, the tragedies, the goofy goobing, the losses, and the love of a found family. It's truly fascinating what power music holds.

I got into Critical Role right as C1 was ending, so I watched C2 live from start to finish. It was something to look forward to every week for 3 and a half years. The booming onset of "Welcome to Wildemount" hits you like a rush of wind, and it just carries me back instantly to that world and those exciting nights. Laughing at these idiots and their mischief (chaos crew for life). The fear as they faced horrors beyond horrors. When new loves ebbed and flowed. When they overcame their struggles, and when they didn't, and suffered great pain. A story 3 years in the telling. I miss the Nein dearly, but their story continues on.

This is part of my general listening mix on Youtube. No matter where I am or what I am doing, I hear the opening notes and am mentally transported to Wildemount and a group of adventurers trying to make their way in this wild world. Even now, in 2025, the magic is just as strong.
