It’s insane that this isn’t (at least) available on Blu-ray. I love the mansion; it’s a third character. It also has the playfulness of Clue (1985), but is much more sophisticated.

This is a very aptly summary. I watched this film also as a child together with my father for the first time. It is one of the best films that I've ever seen and I never forgot it. Two great actors and a perfect plot.

it is a brilliant film. Even though there are just two characters the dialogue, plot, ideas about class, privilege and love etc are so interesting and make the play so absorbing. the house and all the toys also add to the claustrophobic effect and the fact that they are playing a game with each other. I saw the remake and wasn't keen. I have never seen such a great two handed film ever as good as this. both actors are brilliant. very good review.

What a magnificent film, based on a marvellous play! (Anthony Shaffer wrote both.) I was fortunate to have seen the play on Broadway twice — the first time with Paul Rogers and Keith Baxter; the second with Patrick Macnee and Jordan Christopher.

This film has remained a favourite of mine. It was the last one by director Joseph L Mankiewicz. I was thrilled to see Laurence Olivier in a great movie comeback, after battling major illnesses. Michael Caine was a perfect match. Their on-screen rapport captures and holds your attention. In fact, both received Oscar nominations for Best Actor, and either should have won. (Personally, I was rooting for Olivier.) Instead, Marlon Brando took the prize for “The Godfather” — and refused it anyway!

The 1997 remake proves that big names are no guarantee of quality. Harold Pinter wrote the “script, ” and Kenneth Branagh “directed.” Michael Caine and Jude Law decided to lower themselves to this crap!

The house in Knives Out HAD to have been inspired by the mansion in this movie. And the owner of the house being a successful mystery writer? Can't be coincidence, must be homage.

You forgot it’s only two actors because the performance makes it feel like a full cast

Help us solve a mystery. Who sang the three Cole Porter songs? There are threads that go back over 20 years trying to figure it out. I first became interested because I thought I would enjoy the movies soundtrack. Came to realize no one has been able to divulge who performed the songs in the movie. Lots of speculation, but its still unknown. Btw; it is not divulged in the credits, so….
