Gizmo has the right idea yet again! We must sing along to the symphony of cicadas! The sound of their beautiful voice brings joyful tears to my eyes. 5 star performance! BRAVO! 👏👏👏👏

I saw (and heard) them 17 years ago in Pennsylvania. Amazing experience. We should see a different brood emerge in the Upstate again in 2024.

One year I was in NoVa for the emergence, we went for a walk after dark and the street was covered with Cicadas, the sound was incredible.

I live in N. Georgia but not in one of the counties of the emergence. I would love to see the whole cycle from coming out of ground to mating to laying eggs and then dying off. Thanks for posting this Reed.

Those Cicadas are sooo cool, so loud and prettty destructive. They are really a site to behold though. Enjoy them if they're in your state.

I understand when they come out of the ground the cicadas are carrying an active fungal colony at their rear end. In males, this blooms into a full-blown mushroom which either produces psilocin or cathine -- two very strong stimulants. Apparently that's why the sound they make has such a profound psychedelic affect on everything. Check it out!

Dang! Wish you had made it to my neck of the Ga Piney Woods. I’m about 3 hours south of Ivey Log. I can’t wait till the cicadas come out and start singing here. They’re one of my favorite parts of summer.
I have a silky terrier (similar to yorkie but bigger) who would hunt and eat the cicadas. Does Gizmo hunt? My Sadie hunts mice, lizards, frogs...I think she’d go after a deer if she saw one she could get to. Although she is scared of our ducks.

The best part is these bugs are harmless, I was 15 when I first saw them and it was really cool.

There was a city in Illinois that was hit hard with them about 34 years back and we drove there. Did not get out of the car. The sound was incredible, but I don't remember how long they stayed there, felt sorry for the residents 🪳🦗😥

Hey Reed, if you get hungry on the road, they're pretty dam good fried 😋 but you have to get them as soon as they get out of their shell's. 😁
But I bet you won't, hey free food! Birds, fish, and other animals take advantage over these noisy noisy bugs. I hope you have a awesome blessed day. Cya!
