For people wondering about the lack of the number 13: It’s common in the US to skip the number 13 because old beliefs were that 13 brought bad luck and misfortune. Today, not many people actually believe that anymore, but it’s almost like a homage to history to keep excluding the number 13 :)

If you are new to tradition, no 13th floor and no Roman Numeral 4 on clocks are done out of tradition.

The number 13 refers to a massacre in history on Friday the 13th.

Roman Numeral 4 on a clock looks like Roman Numeral 6 in a mirror. Also, the rotation of the numerals on a dial is confusing, the 5 is upside down, so IV would look bad at that angle. That's why 4 is represented by IIII. Not on all clocks, but most with the Roman Numerals.
