Actually, the mig 25 was designed to intercept the xb-70, so for that reason, its engines wre powerful enough reach Mach 3, however, it couldn't sustain those speeds without receiving permanent damage.

I actually volunteer with the Collings foundation to work on the last F-4 Phantom at Ellington Airfield in Houston. It can only go a bit over mach 1 nowadays due to some compromises that had to be made to compensate for her age, but its still an incredible aircraft and I'm proud to be able to help maintain it.

2.83 was the MiG-25s safe top speed but it has been recorded going past mach 3, only problem is doing this KILLED the engines and dwindled its service life considerably

The Mig-25 can push to Mach 3.2 but for only five minute and the YF-12 is missing, he can go over Mach 3.3 with no damage like the sr-71 or the A-12 (the YF-12 is a A-12 oxcart with 3 missile and a radar to target and the A-12 is the predecessor of the sr-71)

Good thing the SR-71 and or more accurately YF-12 weren’t included, because one was a reconnaissance aircraft and the other was a dedicated experimental interceptor. The MiG-25 and MiG-31 were also interceptors but not built purely for interception as the YF-12 was. The F-15 is my favorite fighter, and the fastest dedicated air superiority fighter.

Went in an English Electric Lightning (ZU-BEX) 2002. 55, 000 ft, mach 2, vertical climb to height 88 degrees on twin reheat. Witnessed black edges of earth, no curvature observed. Thunder City, South Africa (now closed). R.I.P. Dave Stock (pilot in command)
