Reminder:

1. MJF is a HEEL who takes his character seriously and keeps kayfabe.

2. Dax never said his thoughts on MJF were negative. He said he doesn't want to get in trouble or get in hot water; saying something positive about a heel like MJF is the worst thing you can do.

3. Dax called MJF his buddy in the first episode.

4. Dax said he won't lie on his Podcast. If he likes MJF, but doesn't want to lie, but also doesn't want to make MJF look like a good guy, this is the best way he can do that.

Max, or MJF is said to be a lot like Don Rickles... mean and nasty on stage/ring but an absolute sweetheart behind the scenes. Both Punk and Dax have kept up Kayfabe and said he was an awful person. That is how I want my wrestling!

Pure speculation of course but impression I get of MJF is that he likely is a great guy personally behind the scenes and you hear the rumours of that occasionally from those in the know.

However, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he is a bit of a struggle to work with because he knows how good he is and has very strong opinions on his way being the best way, even when his way might hurt some of those around him (hence Dax not being a fan of his because the Pinnacle didn’t do much for FTR).

He reminds me a little of Punk that way which is probably why they ended up working so well together. Punk also seems like a great guy who can get so invested in his work and his way of doing things that he ends up burning bridges like he did in WWE and then in AEW (and I say this as someone who would likely side with him in both of those cases but I can also imagine him being a very prickly personality who might rub people the wrong way).
