Its an asian thing. There are regular umbrellas for rain and umbreallas with UV protection coat on the inside to help combat the heat.

I forgot the title of the legend/story but there is one Filipino legend/story which also explains one of the reasons why Filipinos bring umbrella all the time. In the legend/story, the man was ridiculed because he did not use the umbrella while walking under the heat of the sun but while resting under a shade of a tree. It was explained that there are a lot of cases where snakes would fall from the trees on the people taking a rest under its shade. Using an umbrella under the tree's shade prevents the snake from falling directly on to the person and gives that person an ample time to kill the snake or escape from it.

You see Joe my friend, we filipinos bring an umbrella for a certain reason even if it's sunny out side.

When white poeple busk under the sun they would only get pinkish and worse is sunburn. While we filipinos, will not only get sunburn but our skin tone will definitely change into dark brown or as we call it MORENA. And it will take us few days, weeks or months of hiding from the sun to gain our desired light skin tone. Not to mention the expensive skin care products needed to really have the best results. 😅

that' s mostly because you will experience the sunny day and the raining moment in just one day and even the forecast says the weather is good it will eventualy turn bad so payong is the key to still get where you're going.. hahaha😂😂😂

Even men here use umbrella in a sunny a day. They don't want to get more browned because they believed that local girls won't go for an overcooked. When it comes to rain, they believe rain causes them to get sick so what they do, they cover their heads with thick towels and a beach umbrella just to make sure.
