A major sterilization and disinfection program was carried out in Yichang City of central China’s Hubei Province, with authorities sterilizing main roads, residential communities and farm produce fairs across the city from Tuesday night to the early hours of Wednesday to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).
The city mobilized 377 sanitation vehicles to spray disinfectant along streets from 21:00 on Tuesday.
Luo Zuojun, a sanitation worker, was responsible for the sterilization of Yunji Road, a 1.5-kilometer-long four-lane street. To ensure the disinfectant cover every corner, Luo drove the vehicle slowly and covered each lane.
"We couldn’t drive fast, which is the request for our operation. It is certainly more effective by doing so, as every corner is covered," said Luo.
It is planned to spray disinfectant in public places like roads, streets and bridges using sanitation vehicles. In other areas workers have to operate aerosols manually for sterilization.
Mr. Qu is a volunteer to do the work in his community.
"Each of us is to sterilize 25 floors, ground and underground parking lots, all aisles, and every place people can contact with. We all live in this community and we are one family,so helping others is helping ourselves," said Mr. Qu.
Before the operation, the city informed the public to close windows, cover vehicles and not to go outdoors via TV, radio, newspapers and social media.
