Deep Learning Test For Creating Game Environment - Unreal Engine 5, Houdini, ArcGIS

The project is inspired by Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. I think they really done a great job ! The A.I. technologies they used, make it possible to clone the entire 3D planet.

Unfortunately, there isn't much information about how Microsoft Flight Simulator create the world on the Internet. I only found a documentary. In the documentary, they mentioned that they mixed use these technology to create the world : Photogrametry, Satellite Imagenry, OSM, Generated Buildings and Hand-Design Buildings.

What I am most interested in, is the A.I. Generated Buildings part. In this project, I try to use A.I. to identify the building footprints and landcover.
Because I haven't found a good method to automatically generate 3D buildings yet. The buildings and trees are scattered in Houdini. I would like to try more better methods in the future.

These are my references :

Freaking wow, this kind of tech was in my imagination a long time ago, UE5 is gonna do allot for the gaming industry! This makes me want to be a game developer at 34. I'm gonna take some courses. Subbed!

This is great 👍👍. Microsoft flight simulator environment has been created in a big team that has financial support but you create it alone. I hope you improve your work in the future.

It looks incredible. This looks like an upgrade on even the best city simulators currently on the market (that don’t take full advantage of all my PC cores BTW).

It looks like the general rotation and proportions of the homes are similar from the rendering to the GIS data. Did you have a bunch of preset home models or did Houdini generate homes to match the GIS geometry? very nice.

Imagine creating a racing or driving game with an entire city from USA like san Fransisco or something by using this method

Hello do you have a tutorial on how to make this?

We need to combine this with Ceasium for a nice 1:1 Earth.

That's a great idea but the problem is you don't have the relief information. Maybe you can merge this method with the a map generated by Renderdoc method

Could this be used for creating game maps or do you think it would it be too low in performance?

seems good for now, not perfect but good.

So it seems like.. you are simply scattering 3d meshes based on an image?

A detailed tutorial video with actual explanations would be great since there aren't any out there that describe what you're doing and why you're doing it that way vs the way ArcGIS tells you to do it. Wouldn't that make sense? These silent videos are annoying asf when you click on something that looks hopeful to someone's situation just to find out it's only a 40 second video showing nothing but a couple of clicks...
