“Liberals are done': Poilievre, Singh blast Trudeau party after byelection loss

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh grilled members of the Liberal Party during question period on Tuesday, after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s political party suffered the loss of a second Liberal stronghold in the Montreal byelection of the LaSalle—Émard—Verdun riding.

“Canadians in the former Liberal strongholds of Toronto and Montreal have now given their verdict. After nine years, this prime minister is not worth the cost,” Poilievre said. “Tax is up, cost is up, crime is up. Time's up.”

“The Liberals have let people down again and again,” Singh said. “It's clear from the results of the election last night, the Liberals are done.”

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland defended the performance of the Liberals in response, saying that inflation has reached pre-pandemic levels and that wages have outpaced inflation for 19 months in a row.
