With no air support or superiority, a lot of these ex vets get a wake up call fighting as the underdog for Ukraine as opposed to being previously deployed under favourable conditions.

If you have to buy your own food, I highly doubt your family is getting $400, 000 when you die.

Reminds me of the Redditors that volunteered at the start of the war, posted on Reddit for internet clout, and promptly got their barracks bombed.

Many Colombians also went thinking they would get paid and died for nothing in the end as the government stated they had no such agreement with Ukraine so they never got paid.

My german grandfather always said: "Being a dead hero is honourable but stupid. Being a coward is a disgrace. Being a soldier with your nuts intact and in one piece is a lucky bastard and smart."

If you call Lukashenko a puppet of Moscow, then why don't you call Zelensky a puppet of Washington?

Western countries, especially the USA, have historically held the upper hand in conflicts in the Middle East due to their superior military technology and resources. However, as American veterans who fought in Afghanistan and have since joined the foreign legion are discovering, the dynamics of warfare can be vastly different in other regions, particularly when facing formidable opponents like Russia.

These veterans, accustomed to fighting insurgencies without tanks, fighter jets, and artillery, are now encountering the harsh realities of trench warfare and the devastating impact of being pinned down by enemy artillery. Their assumption that combat against Russia would mirror their experiences in the Middle East, facing poorly equipped adversaries, is quickly shattered.

Many foreign soldiers who have joined the conflict in Ukraine find themselves reevaluating their expectations within the first week of fighting. They come to the stark realization that Russia is not akin to the impoverished countries of the Middle East, where regime changes may seem attainable. The formidable strength and capabilities of the Russian military present a formidable challenge, unlike any they have faced before.

These mercenaries thought they were fighting in Syria or Libiya. Got the shock of their lives very shortly after entering Ukraine. Most were dead within an year. Others fled.😅
