Jesus - speaking as a guy who has hung out with a lot of drug addicts - this WAS a glitch! But there is some kind of drug/medication wearing off involved. And he loses his ability to choose words. I think this is a thoughtful person genuinely trying to answer a difficult question. The question wasn't "was the killing justified" but "what would you tell someone who believes the killing was justified". If someone already has gone to the point where they think vigilante killing is heroic, there isn't much you can say to convince them otherwise.
