I remember well the wood stacking days! My husband and I lived in rural Nova Scotia until he died in 2013 and I moved to North Bay where my children are. Putting away a winter and beyond worth of wood of was not a chore that I looked forward to each year. But how good it felt when it was done and we would sit by the fire and read in the winter. Especially in a snow storm:) Greetings from me in North Bay Ontario.

How beautifully dry that wood looks. Spent many years in Nova Scotia heating and cooking with wood. No heat quite like it!

Takes us a bit longer to get the job done, as the husband is 82 years old. We've been doing it for 40 years, and not ready to quit yet. Imagine the money saved! In this climate, we heat for at least 8 months of the year. I had to make a little fire three days ago, because it was a damp and chilly day.

I just had to say that at the beginning of the video, the shot of the house 🏠 was beautiful 😍. Mike you did a fantastic job painting the house exterior. There's nothing more rewarding than finishing a row of stacking. Then each day comes with less pile, and more rows....until you get to look at your year's worth of warm nights ahead of you 😊.

I remember having log poles delivered: we cut & used our splitter for days at a time, then the stacking (seamed unending) we had a Mahoning Outdoor furnace which heated our home & hot water - it saved so much - your video brought back memories 😊

I’m sure you feel that it is totally worth the effort when you are sung on your couch on a miserable winters day. Great job done. Wonderful video as usual.

I remember chopping wood 🪵 for the fire 🔥 as a child in the UK 🇬🇧. Loved gazing into the ever changing flames 🔥, magical.
Coal was mainly used as logs were expensive and difficult to purchase, also coal was delivered.
The wood/coal ashes were tipped onto the garden to help the plants 🪴 grow.
As for that wood pile it is for whole of the winter ❄️?
And for the long lunch 🥙, just enjoy 😊
Thank you Jane and Mike for an interesting video-say hello to the pooches.🇦🇺👍

Here in Canada, we say wood warms you several times before you ever light it on fire. A big job getting it stacked. Well done!

That explanation of regulating temperature in your cooker was very enlightening. Thanks for that. It looks as if those techniques are part science with a pinch of art tossed in. Great explanation!

So much hard work but so satisfying when it’s finished and then enjoy it all winter long. Thank you for all of the information about wood burning stoves.❤️

It is a ritual here as well we dropped some massive macrocarpra's last year 10 years of wood, I cook and heat water plus house with this, our power bill was $138 which was really good here. It is worth it if you have access to reasonable wood and can store like you do for year plus. Wouldn't bee without our burner also.

Thats some great core work after all that moving. Reminds me of the Jenga game. I would be volunteering for wheelbarrow duty too. 😅

Heating with wood is the best! I love stacking wood, if I was in the same country I would help you! It looks wonderful, great job Mike and Jane.

Hello, just 2years ago we had to let the woodburner go, miss its charm but not the relentless graft getting it sorted and stacked so reluctantly we went with a briliant pellet system it pipes heat to other rooms less mess not expensive and easier in our late 70's to handle also l can say my breathing is improved .
Well done with all your efforts on the house and grounds have a good weekend 😊

We heat our home with wood in a fireplace with an insert that has a blower, and we have a wood stove on our porch as well. We would NEVER go back to central heat. The smell, the feel of the air, everything about a fire is just better in our experience.

We live in the north of Sweden and during the winter months our heating costs are approximately 700 euro… per month for the electricity only, although we have a heating system with log and another system called geothermal heat so it’s a lot of money. But luckily we have our own forest so we have logs for free.

I overidentified with Mike and started having back twinges just watching him stacking!
We grew up heating and cooking with wood and coal. No power tools to cut the logs! Just an axe for the big pieces and a hatchet to make kindling. When we got the wood fire going good, we'd add the coal.
