Obviously this depends on the position, but when I have to go into the office, I hate my job. It’s loud, uncomfortable, and I get home mentally drained to where I don’t want to do anything after. When I work from home, I’m way more productive, it’s relaxing and I’m even more productive in my personal life.

As somebody who worked from home before the pandemic, this is a big hit for me.

Before my current role, I was a contractor which means I could not succeed without being productive and driven. I successfully worked from home for years.

Working in the office is incredibly inefficient and less productive for me. It costs me extra hours of time and money from my life- of which I am not compensated. With inflation, the timing to go back to office really hurts my finances.

In the office, people just walk up and want to chit chat and shoot the breeze and waste my time. It drives me crazy.

The distractions in the office are 10x more intense than at my home.

I invested over a thousand dollars and time into my ergonomic setup at home only to come to the office to use their cheap uncomfortable crap in a junk office.

On top of that, living in a dangerous city makes the commute a danger, and the office has had to close 3-4 different times due to gun violence and threats.


I'm studying my ass off to get certifications so I can get a better job asap and work remote again, but it has been an uphill battle.

With prices going up, having to come into the office is costing me and it feels like I'm paying them to work for them.

I’ve gotten some great advice from this channel, but Jespreet has some horrible pro-corporate takes. The evidence that WFH productivity is better than in-office is extensive. The return to office push is fueled by nothing more than the impending commercial real estate dive.

Someone coming directly to my desk to ask questions in person IS NOT a more efficient or effective system, full stop. I get 10x the amount of work done in the same amount of time working from home because I am not being CONSTANTLY interrupted, or at least I can ignore a slack message for an hour but you can't do the same when someone is literally standing over your shoulder. I am an accountant for a tech company.

I absolutely hate going into the office - it is way less productive for me. I can’t focus when I hear other people chatting all day & I go crazy sitting in my little tiny cubicle.
This is terrible timing as well - we are practically getting a pay decrease because we are going to need to pay for gas a lot more & pay for lunches every day.

There are plenty of companies still hiring remote. Talented people will have the option to go to these remote companies and the flow of skills will shift against the monolithic companies stuck in old systems.

I'm in tech and I will never go back to the office. My life is so much better since beginning remote work in 2019. The technology to improve team collaboration is only getting better. There's no other good reason to be chained to an office building

Going back to my office at least seems pointless. Like you said if I do go back I would just be on zoom at my desk. Might as well do that from home and not have a commute. Also I find it easier to slack someone than try to find them at the office and if we need to talk we will just zoom.

Please tell me what study you quoted on this? Because other studies I have seen say the opposite of what you are saying traditionally. The tech is there to allow folks to work from home effectively and be productive. Now if a person isn't then that is a performance issue with the person. The best option is allow the flexibility for folks if able offer an in office option and a telework option, leave it up to the team and the employee is on. Classic case of evolve or die in things.
