if you tried this trick using a phone cable, you will realize the cable is somehow not really trapped. the cable is just tangled by itself..

I just realized that to form the topology, the cable NEEDS to form a loop, otherwise the trick will fail. The reverse is a nice trick f you need to hold something quickly by the way.

Please show how to TRAP a cord in this manner without lifting the table and without blocking any views with your hands. E.g. can you run a cord through a hole in a piece of wood in which the two ends are too large to go through the hole?

The problem is that the plug end is under the bar twice! If you lifted the bar on the right side and then slid the plug to the right until it is under the bar on the front side....then you would still be forced to lift the bar again to free the plug...

After watching this more than a dozen times and slowing it down and paying close attention to some details of different steps of the process, I finally realized that the way in which it is done in this video makes it appear more complicated than it needs to be. There's another way that would make it appear far less mysterious. So this is good showmanship but not necessarily good technical instruction.
