Spot on.
Is there now an opportunity in the market for the major customers to think outside the current model for freight transportation? As highlighted many national carriers utilise sub contractors, where in some instances its over 90% and the transportation company acts as a aggregator with very little or no actual fleet.

Perhaps there is a opportunity for companies with freight issues to cooperate and establish a co-op for a small investment, invest in a control centre/control tower, technology and tap into the 3rd party/sub contractor overlay direct. Obviously pilot it in. But upside is many are already doing the work, have the routes and fleet.

Raises many questions on freight costs and management of current model rather than trying to carve out cost savings against national carriers who have market share. Maybe there is a different way required in the strat approach. Amazon whilst a standalone was a good example where business was heavily reliant on 3PL, growth of the business however lead to the penned term of the "tail wagging the dog". Thus to overcome that they built out thier own fleet model, control towering it and tapped into sub contractors previously not big enough in coverage to compete directly..
