Custom Lens Flare Tutorial

A little tutorial to show you how to make your own free custom lens flares inside of after effects. No more will you be a slave to high plugin prices or the unprofessionalism of built in flares! Can a brother get a like? Here is a download of some free goodies just for you.

If you look to the left of the pen tool on the tool bar you'll see a shape tool options. You can press 'Q' for quick access. Then if you select the ellipse tool from the drop down menu you'll be able to make perfect circles by holding down shift and dragging out.

If you're using the shape tools in after effects, when you select the rectangle tool, click and hold down to bring up the other shape tools.

You could pick whip which ever layer you used as your "center" to the null object. Then provided you have good track data it should do the trick :)

Sure or change color afterwards by choosing the solid and doing one or another.
shift + control + y (when solid is selected) or from up choose Layer / Solid Settings...

Nice work, I've had great luck just modifying the stock lens flare. I even built a preset.

You can get it pretty cheaply with student discounts, and if you absolutely don't want to spend any money you can use a streak filter. I did a tutorial on how to make one of those for absolutely nothing in my last video.

You can make custom lens flares in cinema 4d. Then just copy it into after effects and apply the negative effect:) then save as an effect preset.. maybe:D

I just made a small circle using the shape tool in after effects, and then duplicated it and changed the color.
