Still have one of the best defensive lines in the country. And the secondary is overall way more talented extremely young but still more talented. Can't be worse than 2022.
offense should be way closer to 2022

We still have 10-2 potential and then we would make the playoff. Nico getting us to 10 wins, Playoff appearance and maybe even a playoff win is a success for 2024. 2025 is our chance with Coach Heupel in Year 5 and Nico in Year 2 as a starter we become a true natty contender!

I think if there was a spot we could be a half second behind it would be secondary. We are blessed to have a DLine that will eliminate that half second and balance that out. With that being said Thomas replacement, Boo Carter(Fr) has gotten more offseason hype than any freshmen in the last 10 years at Tennessee. The last person I remember getting this much hype in the secondary as a true freshmen was Cameron Sutton. Now we are unproven on the backend but I think we upgraded from an athleticism aspect and hope to think schematically we can get them coached up. We should know what we have in the secondary early with NC St and Oklahoma looming early on the schedule.

Feel terrible for the kid and wish him all the best, but at the same time I’m not concerned at all. Even without him this DB room is twice as talented as it was last year and all these folks get way too hung up on experience. They’ll be fine, just watch.

Tennessee’s pass defense in 2022 was utterly abysmal, and the team still produced 11 wins (10 reg season + bowl).

This secondary has far better talent and depth. Combined with a nasty d-line, that should worry teams.

Though replacing the secondary IS s concern, looking at the numbers might suggest the big picture that the offense was more of the problem in 2023 than the defense, which is counter to the Heupel narrative. Improved QB play and experience/competition in WR room should make the passing game and overall offense better. If so, better offense plus a ferocious pass rush means the young secondary will have time to find themselves and gel. The Vols will end up favored in 10 games but it should be 11.

Tennessee is a great team, and will get better down the stretch

The talent and depth of the defensive line was always going to carry this secondary. They will cover up a lot of the issues and inexperience.

Joshie Poo don’t you worry we have a kid named Boo Carter and some stud cornerbacks starting in the secondary. Safeties are the question. Our front 7 going to eat.

They are not worried about the O-line at all. All seniors or juniors and also very talented. Lance Heard, Cooper Mays, Javonte Spraggins, and John Campbell are excellent players. Plus, we have depth for a change. That's the difference this year. Not only do we have a qb who can make every throw and also run, but we have depth everywhere. This team will average 50 a game. Yes, average 50 a game. Take a picture, write it down, whatever. Watch and see. 11-1

I think Boo Carter, freshman, will start at star, he may not have the time in yet but his physical ability is there

It’s bad news I wish him a speedy recovery but I think we’ll be ok not 120 in the country but we have some good talent in the room so we should be a little better than that GBO🍊🍊🍊

He wasn't 100% going to be the starter. For one, he's new at the position, secondly, projected to potentially be. This means there were and are others that were competing for the spot. Also, that position wasn't the end all be all for TN's secondary woe's and did improve last year's secondary from 126th to 64th. On the concern scale of 1 to 10, 10 being a five alarm fire, this is about a 3. Boo Carter looks to positioning to take over that spot. This is why takes recruiting high level players whom come in as ATH position as they are athletic enough to play at multiple spots. Secondary has all new faces but some are portal guys with good experience and Pili is back this year from injury in his what, 7th season and he's your captain of this group. But this one position isn't going to force TN's offense to score differently, more, less than they intended to before the injury. One thing is for sure. Jourdan Thomas is a baller. Boo Carter is faster though and should be a factor as they are tapping him in practices at this position.

In July before the injury to Thomas, the Star and Safety positions were according to the staff, "very much up in the air". If your offense is godo enough, you got a shot to beat anyone, even if the secondary is 126th like it was in 22 for TN. And TN in 2022 only had 64 scholarship players on the team. TN's scheme is the great equalizer for this TN against deeper teams. Saban couldn't use his defense the way he wanted to be beause TN's tempo wouldn't let him sub and forced Saban to have to give up one part of the field to fully cover another by being spread wide by the offense.

This Tennessee team does not need to be perfect but, there will be surprises along the way. I see a team that is tired of being underrated by the media, they will play with a chip on thier shoulder. The corners will be sharpened as will it be a team that will get that nasty taste out of thier mouth and, spew it on the football field. I see a team that is destined to be above average and, there is nothing anyone can do about it. GBO!!!🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🏈👍👊💯
