Stoichiometry problems come up all over the place in chemistry!
Chemistry: Intro to Stoichiometry with Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
This is Part I, which is an introduction to the subject.
Part 2 (mass to mass conversions):
Stoichiometry is a kind of calculation in chemistry. It’s sort of like bookkeeping. Stoichiometry lets you figure out how much of a substance is used up or produced in a chemical reaction. It’s really common to measure the amount of one reactant, in order to figure out how much product you expect to get. Or, given how much of one reactant you have, you might want to figure out how much of a second reactant to add so you don’t have any left over.
This video introduces the concept of stoichiometry, and how balanced chemical equations can be used like recipes (for instance, the recipe for grilled cheese sandwiches). We give an example of how to solve mole-to-mole problems. Part II will cover mass-to-mass problems.

About our instructor:
Kimberly Hatch Harrison received degrees in Biology and English Literature from Caltech before working in pharmaceuticals research, developing drugs for autoimmune disorders. She continued her studies in Molecular Biology (focusing on Immunology and Neurobiology) at Princeton University, where she began teaching as a graduate student. Her success in teaching convinced her to leave the glamorous world of biology research and turn to teaching full-time, accepting a position at an exclusive prep school, where she taught biology and chemistry for eight years. Kimberly co-founded Socratica Studios.
