Be aware that both the live and regular installers do install the KDE PIM suite (thus it uses more memory).
Advanced users and experts can avoid this by installing Debian from the regular installer without any DE and kde-plasma-desktop and plasma-nm afterwards (don't forget to comment out the primary network interface in etc network interfaces ).
Know that you will get a minimal KDE Plasma installation and will have to add all the Plasma "bells & whistles" manually.

Thanks for the video ! I have installed on 3 machines and it does seem pretty heavy memory usage with the KDE desktop. Samba shares found automatically from my truenas server which is nice. I like it, have had a few problems with sleep/hybrid sleep/other power saving functions, and a few desktop crash/reboots when changing some settings. Plays Blu-Ray quality mpegs over network on a small core2duo computer on my big screen in 1080 with very little jumping and great visual quality over intel graphics.

The likely reason for your lack of hardware acceleration is found in the release notes: "5.2.3. Limited hardware-accelerated video encoding/decoding support in VLC" (used by Phenom, which is used by Dragon Player) in Chapter 5. "Issues to be aware of for bookworm".

"Because FFmpeg was upgraded to the 5.x branch, VLC's VA-API support has been disabled. Users of GPUs with native VA-API support (e.g., Intel and AMD GPUs) may experience high CPU usage during video playback and encoding."
