Tuesday Tech Tip - Storinator Re-Design: Direct Wired Backplanes

Each Tuesday, we will be releasing a tech tip video that will give users information on various topics relating to our Storinator storage servers.

Last week, we announced a new re-design of our Storinator storage server. Brett walked you through the new features of the design that aim to improve user feel, serviceability, and thermal performance.

This week, Brett focuses in on one of the major improvements of the Storinator which is the direct-wired backplanes. These backplanes give us the ability for hot swapping and staggered spin-up.

I think this explains why one of my old JBOD servers trips my UPS when starting up from powered down state, it needs staggered spin up like this!

Would be pretty cool to be able to buy the circuit board to retrofit older chassis and non-45drives cases. I have a couple that I could mod to add this thing in that would be pretty sweet to have.

Wow didn't know that a power hungry drive can cause its nearby drives to reset when it draws that much power. Thank you for the video.

Hi, is this unit you have presented just for file sharing (SMB, NFS) NAS product? or can be hooked up to Proxmox via iSCSI ? If it is, could you explain it because it seems that Houston Cockpit only has file sharing interface (NFS and SMB)?
