It would have been nice to see a close up of the screen on the device while it was testing.

For toasters to get a proper result the lever needs to be pressed down to engage heating coils.

I use a very similar tester and the procedure is the same, but when testing toasters I found I had to press down the slide on the toaster to complete the continuity test. Did you have to do this Aldo. I didn't see you do it in the video

Can you do a pat testing course and be fully legal and insured to do pat testing for commercial customers. Is it recognised by most public liability insurance providers, and other business insurers?

I have a AV rental business and have to get my equipment pat tested every year, I was hoping to do a PAT testing course so I can do my own tests and perhaps offer PAT testing services to other businesses.

Hi. Can I pat test my sewing machine myself or do I need to have someone else do it? I’m not a qualified electrician but have the equipment.

you need to lower the side of the toaster....otherwise you may as well be testing thin air

Would this be the same for a device with a removable kettle lead and not fixed cable??

Useless never showed the button he was pressing or as the results were displayed, a good shot of the back of his hand filling in the report.

i do jobs worth testing i mean pat testing all this paperwork for a bloody toaster, health and safety gone mad, whats wrong with just testing it giving it a pass, logging down the address and serial number that is enough for gods sake, paper work paper work, insurance companies insuring themselves against having to pay out insurance.i do electrical installations eicr, s etc etc paperwork paperwork, Maybe all this paper work is the result of shit loads of so called sparkies not having the proper time served training that we used to have.pat testing should not be this involved.niether should installation work .if its a registered spark thats doing the work then then it should be tested and given a pass, at the end of the day its on the person signing off the work, laymen dont understand the test results niether do courts for that matter.

Isnt it about time the term "pat test" was replaced with something far more professional sounding ?

For a start - PAT test = portable appliance test .. test. The word test is repeated.

And - what the heck is a "PAT tester" ? A portable appliance test tester ? Sounds pretty unconvincing to me

And since the IET code of practice is mentioned ... why don't we follow that ..

Its entitled : "IET Code of practice for the in service testing of Electrical Equipment "... It DOES NOT MENTION P A T !!!

So rather than use the rather idiotic term "PAT" testing - why don't we use a FAR MORE professional title:

"In service testing of Electrical Equipment" ( or EE testing ? ) - Gets away from using the ridiculous term "portable " !!

Since when were toasters, Microwave ovens, PC's etc "portable" ??

If we are going to be serious about testing electrical equipment ( which we SHOULD BE .... ) then at least lets give it a proper name !!!
