I put self employed and definitely got several cards with very high limits

Maybe I fall into the exception group rather than the norm, because I applied for a credit card last year December and was instantly (5 second) approved for a credit card with a $14, 000 limit even though I stated I am retired. Interestingly, after the approval, I checked my credit score - something I had not done in over 25 years - and it was 790.

Retired people with fair to good credit and a monthly income are being approved for credit. I am confused here as a retired person.

I believe it depends on the company and whether you applied during their promotion period, where they are trying to boost their “new member” numbers for the next Earnings Report..
So basically they willing to approve just about anybody 😂
