Thanks for giving our comp some love. I worked for Giltinis last year. It was an amazing experience. I watch an enormous amount of Rugby and what it lacks in technical ability it makes up more with exciting Rugby. A lot of games are shoot outs. The players don’t have the luxury of knowing the sport is ingrained like in other countries. They really put on a show. It’s my favorite league in either codes.

I’m an Aussie living in California - played a little rugby for the Nola team before it went pro. The US could be a strong rugby nation - the high school and college (american) football player pool is a massive untapped resource. Not sure how the US could be a more competitive tier 2 nation, but hopefully the MLR helps.

It's a fun league to watch. Sometimes Nonu seems slower than a tractor but when he carries i still wouldn't try to tackle him.

I remember Samu Manoa being an absolute beast during his Northampton years. Still at it for the Seattle Seawolves. Unlucky not to make your list.

Bloody hell, how is nonu still going. Can we build a statue to him soon?

I would love to see the game develop more in the states and I think they have an appetite for it.

I’ve been patiently waiting for the new season to start and stoked it’s finally here.

The game has a long way to go there, but it’s growing each year. And with the World Cup there In 2031, you’d expect the league to grow stronger, richer and attract more current Test level players.

Once Rugby can break into the Television market, the money will flow into the game and attract the biggest stars. It’s bound to happen and it would be a great new Avenue instead of Europe for professional players.
It will get more and more competitive and the lure of America would become too great to ignore. Even more so In preparation for the World Cup.

Once they tap into the vast wealth of athletes that America produces, I would say it would be a fair assessment that they ( the Eagles), would be a tier one nation and that would push the AB’s and Boks to their limits. Maybe not In 8 years time, but we’ll before they next 20 years have passed.

I’m loving the fact that the USA has a competition that is growing and it seems like the supporters are growing each year.

Now, if World Rugby can just sort the grey areas out, be tougher on officiating, do away with silly cards for small things, and returns Rugby to be a spectacle between two sides like it’s meant to be, and the Yanks will turn up in droves. They like fast paced stuff. Just need to clear the laws up a bit, and the MLR will be the next destination and era for professional rugby .. mark my words

Like you said… all these things can only be good for the health of our game. It’s time the Sleeping Giant awakes. I am all for it

PS - I’m a South African and did follow San Diego, but now that there is a team in Chicago, I will back them, as all my American sporting teams, are from Chicago.
And I don’t even care if they suck this first season. Eventually, they’ll rise

Thanks for your content mate, it’s always so enlightening.. keep up the good work and looking forward to weekly round ups of the MLR

Sadly (for us Free Jacks fans), Dougie Fife was traded after last season to NOLA Gold.

You're saying "Juarez", your "j/h" sound is correct but the "g" in Jaguares isn't silent, and the final letter, "s" isn't a z sound. Try "Hug-wah-ress", not Ha-wah-rez

Been around some guys who got MLR offers, but they aren't going to give up a PT practice to make $50k or so a year. MLR doesn't have a chance with guys with professional careers, but guys right out of uni will be willing to make that much for a few years to play.

Sucks that both "Gillies" teams were culled courtesy of one man's tiny ego and financial stuff-ups.

Hopefully another LA team is reconsidered free from egotistical owners, but anyways it's back to Seattle the first team I follow while looking at these five players of interest.
