I listened to this song when I had my RE8 phase and made a whole backstory about an oc fifth lord and Lady D. Lady D and fifth lord were dating- but Lady D ultimately betrays their trust for mother Miranda. The setting is a meeting of the Houses where they banish or execute the OC fifth lord. Heisenberg sings the first part. The Oc passively aggressively sings “Just see how virtue repays you, you turn and someone betrays you” and Lady D finishes with “Betray him first and the game’s reversed.” The chorus is how everyone is caught in lie because of it for Mother Miranda. With lines starting with “Through the most your lover is beckoning” going through until it ends with “But hold your own face the wind alone” is about Lady D feeling disgusted at herself for betraying the fifth lord for Miranda.Also, most of the time when Chauvelin sings, I just think of it being Heisenberg XDD “Till we sell our souls away” is alluding to the Lords selling themselves in a way to Mother mIranda. “Can I run to you, are you true to me? I’ll do unto you as you do to me” is like a flashback of OC and Lady D before things got complicated and they could rely on each other. “Then we slowly learn- someone has to burn” is oc bitterly talking about how everyone jumped on them as the sacrificial one. “Better you than me” is all the Lords agreeing that they would not be in the position of Miranda’s wrath.”Oh every Judas once loved a Jesus” is mother Miranda’s only solo line as thunder cracks ominously in the background. “And only fools follow golden rules” alluding to oc being the innocent one who truly had no ulterior motives and pays the price for their naivety. The epic instrumental in the end- I imagine a slow countdown until Lycans are unleashed and oc has 10 seconds to escape or die. A cruel chase if you will.
