Who Are The Hell Knight And Baron of Hell? (Before You Play DOOM Eternal)

Since the glory days of the original DOOM back in 1993, there are some demons in particular that have come up against menacing foes for players time and time again. The Cyberdemon and the Spiderdemon, for instance, have become iconic as classic DOOM villains (we've spoken about both of them over the past few days).

And while they definitely take the cake when it comes to set-piece bosses throughout the history of DOOM, a much more common enemy who is nearly as menacing as those two is the Baron of Hell, and its weaker cousin, the Hell Knight. Here, in this feature, we'll continue our look back at some of the most iconic monsters throughout DOOM's history, and focus on those two in particular.

*The Hell Knight in the Doom 3 Alpha version actually had a cool finishing move. Which was taken out. And and early build of Doom 2016 had Hell Knights and Imps having the same head design, until it was changed* ✅🙂

I haven't noticed a "Bezerker" power up. I am actually really hoping it makes it in. DoomGuy splattering imps and 1 hit kills on demons is some of the most fun in Doom '93. There is already a bunch of melee artwork and renderings, it probably wouldn't be that much to introduce.

I remember running into the Baron of hell for the first time in the early 2000s. They reminded of Motaro from Mortal Kombat trilogy and they both absolutely bodied me.

I’ll say, the one bad thing about DOOM 3, was the Cyberdemon, final boss, was laughingly easy. The guardian was harder then the Cyberd.

Honestly I have to ask guys, I've never played a doom game only watched walkthroughs and lore videos, as a kid I was always afraid the game was like a horror game but since I'm older I find myself wanting to get Doom Eternal, is the gameplay as fun and awesome as everyone says?

Hey, just a bit of a nitpick, at 3:53 you describe the Baron of Hell performing a “vicious stomp” on the ground that creates a shockwave. It’s not actually a ‘stomp, ’ but some sort of a double fist smash. I’m not sure of the exact terminology, but it’s definitely not a stomp with it’s feet, but rather a slam with both of its fists that cause the shockwaves. Cool video though regardless. Let me know if I’m wrong, and it is indeed their feet that cause the shockwaves instead of their fists. Great video, I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to you creating more quality videos.
